ZACCI-SADC Sensitization Workshop on Non-Tariff Barriers

On 12th October, 2023, the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Business Council and Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), held a Sensitization Workshop on Non-Tariff Barriers (NTB) and the African Free Continental Trade Area (AFCTA) at Neelkanth Sarovar Premier Hotel in Lusaka.

The purpose of the workshop was to deliberate on various opportunities that could be realized under the AFCTA while comprehensively highlighting the impeding Non-Tariff Barriers, their impacts on trade facilitation and effective strategies to address them.

Present at this important gathering were, Mr. Elvin J.S. Nasilele, Chief Executive Officer at ZACCI, Mrs Daniele Stuebi, Trade Advisor at GIZ, Mrs Charity Banda, Chief Technical Regulations officer at Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry (MCTI), Mrs Noncedo Mviko, Trade Specialist at SADC Business Council and diverse private sector players.

In delivering his remarks, Mr Elvin J.S. Nasilele expressed his sincere gratitude to the SADC Business council and GIZ for the outstanding work they are doing in promoting trade facilitation in the SADC region. Mr. Nasilele emphasized that, the actualization of a more integrated and prosperous Africa lies in our ability to address impediments such as NTBs that continue to stifle trade and limit economic opportunities.
