ZESCO LIMITED AND ZACCI CONFERS

FacebookTweetPinLinkedInEmail

ZESCO Managing Director Mr. Victor Mulenga Mudende says ZESCO’s partnership with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) is key to growing the industry sector in Zambia. Speaking during a breakfast meeting recently at the ZACCI secretariat in Lusaka Mr. Mudende said that the meeting was a great opportunity for both institutions as they had a lot in common and the synergy would push the development agenda to greater heights.
Mr. Mundende also noted the ambassadorial role ZACCI played during the 2015/16 season when ZESCO was facing challenges as a result of load shedding. He added that it was for that and many other reasons that ZESCO looked forward to a more closer partnership and its many benefits, considering that the two organisations share some common goals to ensure the promotion and growth of the industry.

Mr Mudende further said that when ZACCI visited the power infrastructure at Kariba North Bank Power Station during the time of the power crisis, they appreciated the situation and therefore became a voice for ZESCO by ensuring that industry and other players understood the prevailing circumstances at the time. He said that it was a well-known fact that today’s big economies have been created by Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) because the back-bone of such economies are a diverse and resilient SME sector.
And speaking at the same meeting, ZACCI president, Mr. Michael Nyirenda said ZESCO had in the past facilitated for a number of ZACCI members to visit the Kariba North Power Station and Kafue Gorge Power Station to get first-hand information of the challenges faced during the period of load shedding. “Having undertaken a fact finding mission and gaining a better understanding of the situation we realized that there was urgent need for ZESCO to become a Corporate Member of ZACCI wherein the organization would enjoy the full benefits of the Chamber and create a platform through our services and forums to
interact more closely with the Zambian business community under our umbrella,” Mr. Nyirenda said. He expressed happiness that ZESCO was finally on board as its corporate member. In line with its vision of ‘Being The Hub for Electricity Trading in The Region by 2025’ and mission of ‘Making It Easy for People to Live a Better Life’, ZESCO has laid the foundation for economic development, for business houses and captains of industry to get on board and utilize the electricity potential available.
