On the 8th of November 2023, a milestone was achieved as the International Trade Centre proudly unveiled the Trade Obstacles Alert Mechanism (TOAM) Platform in collaboration with esteemed partners, the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry in Lusaka. The momentous occasion saw Mr. Vianney Lesaffre, the representative from the International Trade Centre, delivering the official opening remarks, setting the tone for an initiative poised to reshape trade dynamics.
Mr. Brian Mwiinga, representing the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, conveyed remarks on behalf of Ms. Lillian Bwalya, Permanent Secretary, emphasizing the significance of this collaborative endeavor. A representative from the European Union also contributed insightful remarks, underlining the global importance of fostering streamlined trade processes.
While at the event, Mr. Nasilele, the Chief Executive Officer, conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He recognized the crucial responsibility entrusted to us as the National focal point for the TOAM project, set to kick off in 2024. The TOAM Platform represents a groundbreaking advancement, enabling companies to report challenges they encounter online, directly notifying the relevant authorities. This initiative guarantees that policymakers and trade support institutions have immediate access to information, facilitating a proactive approach in addressing obstacles encountered by the private sector.
